Lorna Shore “I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me”

Just when you think the bar for Symphonic Blackened Deathcore couldn’t get any higher, Lorna Shore has returned to shatter expectations with their opus, I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me. Following their monumental success of 2022’s Pain Remains, a record that catapulted them to the forefront of the extreme metal scene with their new front man Will Ramos, that took the world by storm. The New Jersey quintet digs deeper into the well of symphonic blackness and visceral brutality that offers you their continual evolution. I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me is an unapologetic maelstrom of orchestral grandeur of immense brutality that is displayed within ten solid tracks that will engulf you in an intricately woven tapestry of internal decay that lasts for an hour and five minutes. So let's dive into their latest masterpiece.

Looking first at the album art, we see a dark and somber painting of an emancipated pale complexion of a man, reclining in a posture of suffering. Depicted in what looks to be a dark, cavernous and oppressive environment with the face of the man smudged. This may symbolize the inner emotional torment of the mind, and its struggles from within. A prominent feature is the heavy, dripping texture that dominates the upper portions of the image and flows down over the central figure, almost as if the entire scene is dissolving or melting. This effect adds to an overwhelming sense of decay and can possibly correlate to the meaning and overall theme of the album.

Taking off with a sober beat that resembles that of a beating heart that builds into an industrial horror ambiance leading into some well placed drum blasts. A brief silence before “Prison of Flesh” takes off in a full chaotic symphony of brutality. The immense emotionally charged intensity builds perfectly with well timed intricate chord progressions and bombardment of drums that resonate and synergize with Will’s immensely diverse demonic vocals. Start to finish, this song is impressive and a great start to the album. Even a solo breaks in over the blasts of drums that breaks off into more atmospheric build up. Before you know it, Will is taking off again over an intense breakdown.

Unbreakable” begins with a gothic influenced symphonic intro that carries on behind the intense barrage of emotionally charged anguish. As if to challenge the odds, this track conveys a sense of unwavering courage that showcases that they cannot be beaten. An anthem to unity and resilience. Another amazing track from start to finish. “Death Can Take Me” begins with an orchestra hymn-like chant that leads into a delicious chord progression which further takes you into an onslaught of pure brutality. A disgusting composition of blackened symphonic deathcore. As this impressive album takes off you hardly noticed that an hour has gone by. So impressive with their intricate chord progressions that never fail to build up and lead into an onslaught of chaotic emotionally charged tracks.

With breakdowns in all the right places, in-depth atmospheric elements that resonate behind the intensity of it all. I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me truly showcases their talent and skill that is Lorna Shore. I highly recommend that you go get yourself a copy of this masterpiece and add it to your collection of Deathcore and I look forward to seeing this live.
